Unbelievable Chifeng Hotel: Qiaobei Stone Market's Hidden Gem!
Okay, buckle up, buttercups, because we're diving HEADFIRST into Unbelievable Chifeng Hotel: Qiaobei Stone Market's Hidden Gem! And let me tell you, "hidden gem" is… well, it's a start.
First off, let's get the "boring" stuff out of the way. You know, the bits the brochure probably gushes over. Let's talk Accessibility. Finding the hotel was a slight adventure. Getting there from the airport? Okay, Airport transfer, check. Good thing, because after a 14-hour flight, I was as useful as a chocolate teapot. The hotel does have Facilities for disabled guests, and an Elevator, which is HUGE for old bones like mine (especially after a particularly enthusiastic pre-breakfast buffet). The website promised great Accessibility, But I needed to ask for some assistance to get the luggage up the first set of stairs, it would be great if they added a ramp…. I mean, seriously, navigating the city? Definitely not a walk in the park, so thank goodness for, the Car park [free of charge]… seriously, a lifesaver.
Now, for the real meat and potatoes, the juicy bits. Rooms sanitized between stays? Check. Anti-viral cleaning products? Supposedly. Hand sanitizer at every turn? Yep. The place is practically swimming in sanitization. Which, on one hand, is comforting in THIS day and age. On the other hand, after a long day of haggling over jade at the Qiaobei Stone Market (more on that later), I kinda just wanted to flop on the bed, germs and all. But hey, Room sanitization opt-out available is another plus – I didn't use it, but it's the principle of the thing, right?
Let's talk Dining, drinking, and snacking. Okay, So, the Restaurants they said there were, including Asian cuisine, which is precisely what I wanted. The Breakfast [buffet], well, let's just say it was… extensive. Like, you could build a small mountain range out of the pastries alone. The Coffee shop was my saving grace – strong coffee, the lifeblood of any travel writer. The menu was a little dizzying! But I loved the Happy hour and sat out on the Terrace. Poolside bar was a great way to unwind on the balcony and watch the sunset. A la carte in restaurant? Always a winner. Room service [24-hour] was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the Bottle of water that was always on hand.
Cleanliness and safety are taken very seriously. Staff trained in safety protocol. Daily disinfection in common areas. All good things, all reassuring. I'm kind of a germaphobe, so this stuff is huge for me. (I always ask for extra sanitizing wipes for the plane. Judge me.)
Internet access is essential, and the hotel delivers. Free Wi-Fi in all rooms! Praise be! I could upload my Instagram stories (pics of the majestic mountain, obviously) and respond to urgent emails from my editors. The Internet access – LAN option was also good, it was a decent overall connection.
Now, the good stuff. The experience. The heart of the matter.
Okay, so the Qiaobei Stone Market. Oh, my god. It’s a sensory explosion. The smells, the sights, the sheer energy. You're amidst a sea of vendors with gemstones twinkling like a thousand tiny suns. That's the "Hidden Gem" part, folks!
And after four hours of haggling over a particularly gorgeous jade pendant (which I totally needed, by the way), I was utterly spent. That’s when I discovered their saving grace. The Spa/sauna. The Sauna. The little Spa. The Foot bath. Oh, sweet, merciful heaven. I spent a solid hour in that sauna. It was quiet and clean and all my cares just… melted away. I’m pretty sure I even dozed off for a minute.. Then, I moved on to the Massage. The masseuse was a miracle worker! I think I made a few happy sounds and then the best moment was the Pool with view, as the sun set. As you can guess, I had a pretty great afternoon.
The Services and conveniences are extensive. I did use the Laundry service, which was a lifesaver because, let's be honest, travel is messy. The Concierge was helpful with recommending local spots. There’s a Convenience store for those mid-afternoon snack attacks (hello, instant noodles!). And Currency exchange is a must for a place like this.
The details in my room, were amazing and the Additional toilet made staying at the hotel even better. I slept great in the Extra long bed. The Blackout curtains were another win. The Daily housekeeping was a great touch.
Let’s talk about the “meh” stuff. The Fitness center? Yeah, I looked at it. From the outside. Let's be honest, I have a gym at home. On vacation, I prefer trying all the food. The Gym/fitness. The Body scrub, Body wrap. The Steamroom. Sounds nice, I'm sure, but I didn't get around to it (see previous comment about food). The Alarm clock I skipped too, my phone is enough lol.
Here's the thing: Unbelievable Chifeng Hotel: Qiaobei Stone Market's Hidden Gem! isn't perfect. But the small imperfections that I did find, made it feel honest, real. Its quirky, its cozy. And that's the charm of the place. Unbelievable Chifeng Hotel: Qiaobei Stone Market's Hidden Gem!

Nongsa Village: Batam's Paradise Found? (Unbelievable Photos Inside!)
Okay, buckle up buttercup, because this isn't your grandma's meticulously colour-coded travel itinerary. This is a raw, unfiltered, probably-slightly-hungover account of my glorious (and possibly disastrous) adventure at the Hanting Hotel Chifeng Qiaobei Stone Market, Chifeng, China. Expect tangents, questionable food choices, and a whole lot of "what was I thinking?"
Day 1: Arrival, Awkward Noodles, and the Stone Market Stare-Down
- 7:00 AM (or thereabouts): Wake up in a state of mild panic on a flight to Hohhot. Did I pack enough socks? (Spoiler alert: no.) Airport chaos. Delayed flight. Standard.
- 11:00 AM (ish): Land. My stomach is already rumbling, and I’m convinced I saw a look of mild disgust directed at me from a flight attendant. Probably deserved.
- 1:00 PM: Finally arrive at the Hanting Hotel Chifeng Qiaobei Stone Market. It’s… functional. Cleanish. The air conditioning is either on full blast, or not at all. There seems to be no in-between. The lobby smells faintly of cleaning products and… something else. Let's just call it "adventure."
- 1:30 PM: Attempt to check in. My Mandarin is, let's just say, aspirational. The desk clerk stares at me, I stare back, and after a few minutes of confused pointing and gesturing, somehow, miraculously, I have a key. Victory!
- 2:00 PM: Food. Oh, the food. Found a tiny, unassuming noodle shop near the hotel. Ordered… something. The lady behind the counter seemed remarkably amused by my attempts at ordering. Then came the noodles. Chewy. Possibly made of rubber. I'm pretty sure I saw a hint of regret in the noodles' eyes. I ate them anyway. Didn't have a choice really.
- 3:00 PM: The Stone Market. Now, this is where things get interesting. The Qiaobei Stone Market is… well, it’s a LOT. I'm overwhelmed, immediately. Rocks, rocks, and more rocks. Jade, agate, some things I couldn't even pretend to identify. It’s sensory overload. Vendors stare. They really stare. I'm pretty sure I looked like a bewildered tourist. The price haggling is an art form. I attempted it with a charming smile. I’m pretty sure the vendor just sighed and added another zero to the price.
- 6:00 PM: Feeling slightly defeated, but also oddly intrigued. Found a small, surprisingly delicious dumpling place. Fueling up. This is my new mantra. Fueling up.
- 7:00 PM: Bed. Exhausted. The air conditioning is either blasting or off. Let's hope for a manageable level of cool.
Day 2: Jade Dreams, Karaoke Catastrophe, and the Mystery of the Missing Charger
- 7:00 AM: Wake up. Still Jetlagged. Still pondering the mystery of the room temperature control.
- 8:00 AM: Back to the Stone Market. Okay, I was warned. This time, I am mentally prepared. I have a plan. (Probably a bad one.) Okay, I definitely have no plan. Today, I'm going to channel my inner Indiana Jones and find ONE perfect piece of jade. Maybe a small dragon pendant…
- 9:00 AM: The jade hunt begins! After, let's just say, several hours of looking at rocks, haggling (with slightly more confidence, I might add), and getting stared at… I find it. A small, exquisite dragon pendant. A tiny sliver of triumph! Until I see the price. Still, I feel like I might have gotten it for a decent price, after a bit of bartering, which mostly consisted of pointing and looking confused.
- 1:00 PM: Lunch - Back to the noodle woman. This time however, I feel a sense of familiarity with the place, and slightly less intimidated.
- 2:00 PM: Karaoke!!! There was a karaoke bar I saw last night. I'm not sure why this seemed like a fantastic idea. I'm a terrible singer. This is going to be a car crash of epic proportions. But still, the adventure beckons!
- 3:00 PM: Karaoke. Oh dear god. Yes. It was worse than I thought. I attempted to sing "Bohemian Rhapsody" (because why not?) in mangled Mandarin. The bar erupted in a mixture of laughter and horrified fascination. Somewhere in between all the terrible singing, I made a friend, a local who was also drinking, and we managed to belt out some other popular tunes together. It was an experience. I am still cringing.
- Night: The charger… Ah, yes, the charger. My phone is almost dead. Did I leave the charger somewhere? Why is my hotel room a black hole for electronics? I'm pretty sure I'm going to get lost in the dark. Also, still jetlagged.
Day 3: Farewell (and Hopefully, Charger Found) and Contemplating Life Choices
- 7:00 AM: Woke up. It's the Final day of the adventure.
- 8:00 AM: The charger! I found it! In the most obvious place! (Under the bed, of course.) Crisis averted.
- 9:00 AM: One last stroll through the Stone Market. Found a beautiful piece of jade I kind of want.. But, I realized, I am a shopaholic, and I do not need a piece of art. Besides, I have a flight to catch. Time to go home!
- 12:00 PM: Farewell lunch! The adventure is over. The memories shall last forever.
- 1:00 PM: Heading to the airport. Feeling a complex mix of relief, exhaustion, and a strange, almost melancholy tenderness for the city. Did I really like the city? No, but it was something else. An experience! An education!
- 4:00 PM: Safe landing! Back home! Ready to cry.
- Evening: Reviewing my photos and reliving the adventure.
Rating of Things:
- The Hanting Hotel: Functional. Cleanish. Air conditioning issues. 6/10. Would stay again.
- The Noodles: Chewy. Questionable. 5/10. Definitely would eat again.
- The Stone Market: Overwhelming. Fascinating. Exhausting. 8/10. Will return (maybe).
- The Karaoke Experience: Traumatic. Hilarious. Unforgettable. 9/10. Never. Ever. Again.
Final Thoughts:
Chifeng. The Qiaobei Stone Market. The mysterious noodle lady. The karaoke bar. It was messy. It was imperfect. It was absolutely, undeniably human. And I wouldn't trade it for anything. Now, for a long, hot shower and a very, very strong cup of coffee. And maybe a therapist. Just kidding… maybe.
But, despite all the messy travel moments, I would come back.
